Alexa Mobile

While working for Amazon’s devices organization, I led motion design for the Alexa Mobile App focusing on modernizing the experience, injecting motion into the design system across the board while supporting new feature launches. Navigation framework, component interactions, loading choreography, animated icons… even a full redesign to grow the app up from the setup experience it once was, to a full blown Alexa endpoint with a suite of new features focused on device management.

The work ran the gamut - motion studies, concept work, prototyping, testing, production, and hand-off. Spared no expense.

Smart Home

Working closely with the design team, we used the app redesign as an opportunity to implement new motion framework from the ground up. This meant page transitions, loading and latency motion, as well as animated icons and framework for handling realtime device status.

Alexa Assistant

The Alexa experience in app had a glow up allowing for voice, tap, and type interactions. This effort included an entire self contained motion ecosystem for Alexa interactivity including a new updated visual voice chrome, bottom sheet navigation framework, voice transcription, and request response patterns. We even busted our beloved assistant out of the app and enabled and Alexa for Apps SDK.

Media Player

The work effort included modernizing the music player and media controls. Complete with animated play controls, and song title scrolling.

Sign-on + Set up

In a series of experiments, we also upgraded and simplified our sign-in and out of box experiences. These were great opportunities to inject animated illustrations with playful motion that educates customers through the process.
